"Former Commander of the First Missouri Battalion Reappears on the Field of Battle"

Amongst the small clusters of Confederate Commanders, a familiar distinquished figure was spotted on the field of Battle. Recently Retired in a grand ceremony at the Battle of Prairie Grove, Arkansas 2002, the veteran commander reappeared with his former Battalion commanders.

(Read more about the farewell ceremony here)

While the former Colonels' role was somewhat limited his presence was of great assitance to the Confederate cause. We asked the Colonel about the circumstances surrounding his brief return from retirement.

"General Beck was unable to attend the event and Willie, as the senior Colonel in the brigade, was asked to assume the role of Brigade Commander.  Since the Generals absence came with short notice, Colonel Huckabee did not have time to develop a staff.  With that, I was asked to come out of retirement briefly by General Beck and Colonel Huckabee to be a part of the brigade staff at that event.  I was honored to be asked and glad to be of whatever service I could provide.  I had a great time.  It was really good to see everyone after almost a year."
(Ted Prater)

We may still have not yet seen the last of Colonel Ted Prater so we will keep the cameras rolling and keep our eyes and ears open at future events.
